Match Report:

Moray House V Edinburgh Accies

The District League match against ERI was called off, as they were not able to field a team. Kenny managed to fix up a game against Edinburgh Accies XXX.

We fielded a changed team from the previous week. Accies looked sharp around the field and we lost an early score when the defence was out numbered. We started to play better as the first half progressed and we managed to score when good lineout ball was passed out to Malcolm who made a break to go over for a try.

Accies were up for the challenge and came back at us. They scored under the posts, they went blind after a ruck and when the ball was passed back inside the cover defence was AWOL. The forwards managed to take some ball against the head in the scrum and were winning some good lineout ball. We lost a further score before half time; Accies kept the ball alive for six phases of play before scoring under the posts. The game was being played a good pace and we were struggling to be there. HT 5-21

Early pressure from us at the start of the second half saw us take the play into their 22. We were awarded a penalty for offside at a ruck. Chris was successful with the kick.

Accies got their second wind  and scored another try from open play. Andy Blundell had the option of four Accies players to tackle but made the wrong choice.!!   We were playing with lots of effort but they were very skillful at stealing the ball and when they took it to ground, they could win the second phase ball with fewer players in the ruck.

We were still winning lineout and scrum ball but it was very scrappy. Ben was coming into the line well, breaking through but was being tackled by the cover defence. Ricky was tackling well and putting lots of effort into the game. He could have used a bit more support. We lost three further tries as they turned the screw. There were times when I thought they had eighteen players on the pitch. They gave us a bit of a lesson on how to win ball and score tries with good support play. I hope all the players learned something from the match.

Result 8-47.
