Moray House Rugby Football Club Ground: Jack Kane Centre, 208 Niddrie Mains Road, Edinburgh. |
Social Events: Tour to Inverness - March 2007 18 assorted clowns, goats and arsepieces assembled at the Orwell Lodge on the afternoon of Friday 10th March. Jim Wright required extra-special treatment and had to be picked up at home as the traffic lights outside his house weren't working and he couldn't get across the road. Songsheets were distributed, beers drank and Tony's bus was loaded with fools. Andy, Billy, Derek, Ally Lewis choose the more sensible option of travelling by car. After picking up Mr Wright we noticed that he'd soiled his short trousers so whilst his nappy was being changed we nipped to Tesco's for juice and biscuits. Ozzie Pat, sitting upside down, was asleep by the time the Forth Road bridge was but a blur in the memory of the more wakefull tourists. Neill Wood broke open a bottle of lighter fluid masquerading as whisky. It was drunk nonetheless with many renditions of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree. Tony saw fit to stop at Pitlochry where fines were collected and beer was sipped. How time flies when you're enjoying yourself. After the usual mix-up regarding room numbers and payments we met up with some Northern Irish blokes who claimed they used to play for us. Into town where Coop, sporting a fetching hat, tried to flag down a spaceship. Wee Andy fell into a glass of whisky but managed to swim to safety. Tourists got drunk in a titty bar and some went AWOL only to reappear as if by magic the following morning with ironed shirt and creases in their pants. Next morning following periods of quiet reflection and vomitting, 18 players and assorted hangers on made their way to Highland RFC for what was purportedly an over 35s game. Played in good spirit House won quite comfortably although there was one moment for concern when Jim Wright soiled his shorts after being bowled over by a midget with a handbag. Songs were sung in the clubhouse, Scotland gave Ireland a game and Highland kept the food coming. We must give thanks to our hosts and to Gavin for refereeing and helping to arrange the game. More loudmouth soup in the evening. Confused and unattractive women hung around us like flies. Maybe there was a reason for that. The following morning saw snow and gales a plenty. Billy and a band of intrepid adventurers travelled across the country a few times trying to find a road open . They eventually got home at the start of April just in time for Easter. Others spent their hard-earned on train tickets whilst the remaining louts just hung around pubs and watched England get beat before jumping onto Tony's wagon for the long journey back to civilisation. Back at base, lies and untruths were told - so it was business as usual and to top it all we were still crap at rugby.
